Differential Gearing
Climax Manufacturing Company

This drawing shows the differential gear arrangement used on the early Class A Climax trucks. This same differential gearing was used on the Class A and Class B Gilbert Patent locomotives built by Dunkirk Engineering Company of Dunkirk, New York.

This "loose-wheel" arrangement resulted in a lose of traction in curves and was dropped by Climax after only a few locomotives were built using this gearing.
